Sanguinarians
Definition
Sanguinarians are mortals who have a need to feed on the blood of others to maintain a state of good health. Sanguinarians do not produce a sufficient amount of pranic or "life" energy, and therefore need to replace this energy by drinking blood, which is a high source of pranic energy.
Sanguinarians are born and awaken around the late stages of puberty. Upon awakening, they go through many mental and physical changes, including an increased sensitivity to sunlight and heat, problems sleeping at night, digestive problems (as their bodies become more tuned to digest blood, rather than regular food), an increase of psychic abilities, heightened senses, and for some, increased speed, strength or reflexes.
There is much talk of whether Sanguinarians are the same "type" of vampire as psi vampires, and just choose to feed via other methods, or whether Sanguinarians are a completely different type of vampire to psi vampires. While there are some vampires who can gain relief from both blood and energy, there are many who can only gain relief from one or the other. Some believe that Sanguinarians do not require pranic energy, but rather something physical in the blood, much like ageless vampires. There are many different theories as to exactly why Sanguinarians need to feed. We believe it may be a combination of both pranic energy and something physical in the blood.
Strengths
Sanguinarians tend to have heightened senses and good immune systems when well fed. Some Sanguinarians are faster and stronger than the average human. They also seem to age a lot slower than humans, which may be due to the fact that a Sanguinarian's internal body temperature is one or two degrees lower than normal.
Weaknesses
Sanguinarians have a NEED to feed. Without regular feeding, they will become very sick, and experience stomach cramps, headaches, muscle cramps, irritability, nausea and lethargy. Sanguinarians are also sensitive to sunlight on the eyes and skin. Many Sanguinarians also have digestive problems when it comes to eating regular food.
Misconceptions
Some people believe that it is possible to turn a human into a Sanguinarian by exchanging energy. They believe that if you reverse a PSI feed and give them some of your energy, that you can "infect" them. As far as we know, this is not true. Drinking the blood of a Sanguinarian may pass on a few vampiric "traits" (such as sensitivity to sunlight, heightened senses, etc.) to the human, but this is only temporary. Furthermore, simply having the traits of a vampire does not necessarily make one a vampire. It is the need to feed on blood or energy which defines a vampire.
